About Us
The Michigan Professional Nanny Association was founded in March, 2008, to meet a need: connecting Detroit area nannies with each other. It quickly expanded to include nannies from all over Michigan. Because nannies often work in isolation from their professional peers, the internet proved a useful tool for connecting nannies with each other...at first online and then in real life. MPNA was cofounded by two nannies working in Oakland County. These nannies wanted to connect other nannies professionally and socially through a variety of events and activities. They sought to raise awareness, publicly and within the profession, of the high standard of care to which nannies aspire and the need for nannies to support , educate, and encourage one another.
MPNA offers a variety of programming for nannies, such as:
- Monthly gatherings to network and share ideas, tips, and tricks
- Social outings for nannies only
- Group field trips for nannies and the children in their care
- Regularly scheduled playgroups
- Professional development workshops
- Access to educational opportunities and workshops on childcare related topics
- Participation in community service and charitable events
- Membership in our members only yahoogroup
MPNA offers non-nanny members of the community the opportunity to support nannies through professional and business barter memberships.
MPNA is currently run by 3 working nannies: Tara Lindsay (co-founder and co-director), April Krause (co-director), and Maria Harrington.
